Feeding

Saint Thomas Aquinas Ministry is committed to the teaching of the Christian faith and the practice of charity.

We currently prepare and distribute food weekly for up to 200 displaced children, with numbers varying from week to week. Displacement means the population is not fixed—some weeks fewer children are present, other weeks many more.

This outreach takes place every Saturday around 12:00 pm in Life Camp, Abuja.

At present, the work is carried out by a very small team—two people on the ground, with funding provided by one primary donor. Despite the small size of the team, the work has remained consistent.

Feeding and Basic Care

Our primary focus is ensuring that the children are fed regularly. While on the ground, we also pay attention to visible injuries or signs of illness and take responsibility for getting children medical attention when it is clearly needed.

So far:

    • One child with a severely infected wound was taken for treatment and is still receiving medical care
    • Another child who had been run over by a car and left untreated has since made a full recovery

These cases highlight how vulnerable these children are and why this work cannot be limited to food alone.

Medical Needs and Volunteer Doctors

Beyond emergency cases, many of the children would benefit from basic medical checks, early identification of health issues, and guidance on hygiene and care.

We are therefore actively seeking medical professionals—especially doctors and nurses—who are willing to volunteer time to look at the children, advise on care, and help us make better decisions about referrals and treatment.

We are also exploring ways to provide basic health insurance coverage for as many children as possible. This remains challenging due to limited education, lack of documentation, and poor health awareness, but it is an important goal.

Language, Dignity, and Consent

Out of respect for dignity and privacy, we do not share the faces of those receiving aid unless proper consent can be obtained. Many of the children and their families primarily speak Hausa, and language barriers make clear communication and informed consent difficult.

For this reason, we are in urgent need of fluent Hausa speakers who can volunteer as translators. This will help us to:

    • Communicate clearly with the children and their families
    • Understand their needs more accurately
    • Obtain proper consent where appropriate
    • Provide help that is both effective and ethical

How You Can Help

There are several ways to support this work:

    • Donate: Donations help us increase feeding days, cover medical bills, and work toward sustainable healthcare support
    • Volunteer: Especially Hausa-speaking volunteers and medical professionals
    • Visit or verify: Individuals are welcome to visit or send someone to observe the work

Every contribution—financial, professional, or practical—is used directly for food, medical care, and the well-being of the children.
